Subject: Aussie Wheat

Darling Downs, Queensland, Australia
How are all fellow Aussies travelling at this point with the 07 wheat crop. Sounds like things are turning a bit pear shape in the south of the country from what we hear in Qld.

The bulk of Southern Qld has had 50-90mm in the last 10 days. Our crops on the Western Darling Downs have received 85mm which has turned the season completely for us. It is quite unusual for us to get that sort of rain in August, being one of the driest months of the year along with September. We are now looking at average to slighty above average yields (approx 2-2.5t/ha) and this rain will see us through to harvest in mid-October. To say we are happy with our crop and where the prices are today would be an understatement, new crop wheat is worth 330-345 port APW multigrade currently. The rain will also allow summer cropping of sorghum to begin in the next few weeks..

I think we may be one of the luckier ones this year, how are things in your neck of the woods?
