Columbia City, Indiana | I don't mean to rant but this thread is a good example of how far 4-H has strayed from it's original purpose. Feeding funky things not normal for the industry, cooler rooms, shaving pigs, it's kind of ridiculous imo. I think they should bring in a load of feeder calves 6 months before the fair and have everyone who wants to show a calf come and pick a number out of a hat, and that's your calf.
On one hand, I will tip my hat to the hardcore "show" people because most of them work their butts off to compete, so I guess it's not all bad. I actually made money on my 4-H projects, though, and I doubt that's the norm nowadays. And I'm only 34, so it's not like this was the 50's or 60's or something. | |
