I have been going 8 weeks before putting cows and heifers back together after weaning. Have not had any go back to sucking. I saw one heifer a year or two ago try when I put them back but the dam gave a little swift kick and that was the end of that. Would be very helpful to put them together sooner than my usual 8 weeks. I would like to get the steers into grazing corn as the ground should be frozen in the next few days. Because of pasture/lane/water layout, putting steers on grazing corn requires getting retained heifers and cows together in their winter pasture first. Currently its been about 34 days since 10/24 weaning. Cows look fairly dried up as far as I can see. What is your thought on a minimum safe time to put the cows back in with the weaned heifers?
