West Central Illinois | I have some small pasture fields for my kids 4-H sheep that are were alfalfa hay fields. The hay is pretty much done, so a couple of years ago I interseeded orchard grass. I'm happy with the grass, but would like to add something that would give us a little more grazing, especially in the summertime. I don't want to tear the entire thing up and start from scratch. I've read where lesedeza can be sowed onto snow in the winter and it will come on in summer when grass is slowing down. Someone told me that "Marion" lespedeza was the best. Any thoughts or suggestions? Anything else that would work better than lespedeza or which variety should I plant. Pasture is three fields, about five acres. We only have about 7 breed sheep.
