Yes there is vaccine. It works pretty well for weaned pigs that are negative on arrival at the finisher.

It doesn't do diddly for sows. There are way too many strains and they change rapidly.


Best defense is to have several miles of separation between your hogs and any other hogs, even that isn't perfect.

As for treatments, nothing works good. Baytril works about the best of anything.


I keep reading about the plan to eradicate PRRS. I don't know how they think they're going to go about doing it when they don't have an effective vaccine and can't keep it out sow units that are well isolated from other hogs.


Other than naming it there hasn't been much progress made.
