We've never fenced off anything except the well & motor...I'd say 80%-90% of the neighbors are the same. The pivots are pretty rugged - not really anything a cow can destroy. We've never had anything major break...Once in a while they'll pop off the clips that hold the wire running to the motor, but that's nothing a plastic zip-tie can't fix.
