Subject: RE: self feeding bags of corn silage

My main problem with such a set up is you can only use that spot ONE year and its manured, soft and unfit to put a bag back there without severe regrading.

other main problem is cows have tails. The tails have switches on them which is NOT conductive of juice. Cows always want to stand close to the fence but not touching it. Specially IF its barbed wire fence. They swat flies with their tails and get the switch part caught in the fence,no shock, no harm,,,CEPT they can wreck most fences quicker than you can fix them. NOW ever see a bag where a fence failure allowed the cows to run OVER it??? NOT pretty

I agree this setup SURE sounds cool, and easy, and cheap,,,but final results are NONE of any of that!!

ONE failure and you will park the bag way outside and get out the loader and feeder wagon,,,and use old tractor tires or bunks to feed in ,,problem with THOSE are they walk holes in the dirt for those too,,,sometimes need moved once or twice a day,,,IF conditions are right!! Concrete beats that EVERY time!! make the cows come to the concrete and 'preferably' fence line bunks,,unless you have a great dog that watches the gate or you get on and off a couple times thru the lock,,,double gate system.(OR get a electric drive thru)
