Faunsdale, AL | Cows will USUALLY clear the trichomonas infection in time. That's why a lot of cows eventually get bred in a year round breeding program even when the bulls are infected. Apparently the immunity isn't always long lasting since the same cows can be reinfected the next breeding season.
Vaccination helps build the immunity before exposure so maybe they won't loose a pregnancy in the process of becoming immune.
I'm guessing these cows are something special or this wouldn't be happening. Even when tested, adding cows that should be bred, but are open to another herd is risky. I'm sure folks have made money doing it, but it could turn into a real wreck.
There are diseases other than trichomonas out there too. | |
