Faunsdale, AL | Unless they're starving, If the stalks are dry, I think you can just turn them in on it.
They'll probably take a while to learn what the ears have in them. Mostly start in on the leaves and tops of the stalks and get full of that bulky stuff before they eat enough grain to hurt. The grain'll be whole too, so that will help on not getting rumen acidosis and founder. As they learn about handling ears and have eaten their fill of leaves, then they'll gradually eat more and more grain. Might have to limit them if they're dry/near calving so they don't get too fat. | |
