NE IA | Not so long ago( 4 or 5 years) used to buy $16 a ton glutten in Cedar Rapids and contract in Aug/Sept for the next 12 months. Then you could make correct buying plans and budgets and only need to manage the live cattle price risk. Now a contract doesn't get you very far down the road. I beleive the way they have the wet co products priced now you probably are better off using dry from a shrink and frieght standpoint. Now more than ever a guy better make sure the cattle pay for opportunity cost/value on the corn. Just gotta love being a cattle feeder the few minutes a day you can get away with it till have to go back to your desk job of risk manager/ purchasing and procurment manager/pollution prevention & control ajent. Such a hazardous lifestyle it's become. Still gotta wonder if the country wouldn't be better off if we all farmed out of our wallet, I'm bout sure the community would be. | |
