West Central Iowa | $1/hd/day has been the traditional standard estimate for total care for a year. That is an average throughout the year. We know that harvested and stored forages are at the high end of the cost spectrum and corn stalks would be at the cheaper end. I have heard of stalk rents in the range of $2.50-$3.50 per acre. Here is a quote taken from an Extension stalk grazing publication on stocking rates. "In addition to the value of the grain, one acre of corn residue can supply enough forage to sustain a 1,000-pound cow or animal equivalent for 1.5 to 2 months." | |
