“These are the times that try men's souls.” | Yesterday had over 22 fires burn on Utah side of line in one county. Record for this county was 25 fires going at once. Got 6,000 ac. of our winter grazing. Lighting has been popping every night for the past few. All fire teams in S.E. Idaho going full bore yesterday and today.
Had this fire pick up about 6 p.m. called it in, they called tanker in to box it for the night. If they wouldn't have it would have run down the hill to night, then back to north in the morning. The funny thing was there was a fire 1/4 mile s. w. of this one on point of mountain this morning. At 5 a.m. it was burning good, somebody else called it in. Met sheriff this morning at house, wanting to know best way to get crews to it. I told them don't waste time, just bring a chopper in and drop team off. They said no go on team, they then brought chopper with bucket to contain it, made team walk to it. Everybody was committed tonight so they brought bomber in tonight to box this one in. Will bring a chopper in morning to clean this one up in morning.
If they let any of these run very long, the fuel load is so great here, they won't shut them down. Will take 20-30,000 acres in a day. About a good month of fire season left here.
