Subject: shelf life of ground hay/ high rainfall area?

Baldwin City, KS
I am thinking pretty seriously about having some hay ground if I can get someone to come in and do it. I was thinking about having cornstalks ground as well and just feeding bucket for bucket hay and stalks with the old kelly ryan wagon. My question, we are in probably a little higher moisture area in Eastern KS than alot of guys that typically grind hay. I do know that a big pile will crust over and shed water, but how will it hold up if we start getting alot of rain and snow? Like I said, we aren't in a hay grinding area, so it might take a good pile to get someone here and it could be some time getting fed up. Just brainstorming at this point. Thanks.
BTW, the reason that I'm looking at grinding is to be a little more efficient with my hay supply. I will be running more to the wire this year, plus I figure it's never a bad thing to try and be more efficient since land, equipment and fertilizer aren't getting any cheaper.
