Kingston,Mi
Built a 12 by 20 ft. calf shelter along the design from Midwest Plan service, 6 ft. high at the back and 8 at the front. Has 6 by 6inch runners capped with 2 by 6 inch treated planks. Have 7 holstiens steers in it currently, 3 are at 1000 pounds and 4 are at 4 to 500 pounds. Have used it for 15 or 20 years as the only cattle shelter on my farm (a very small cattle operation). Biggest issues are: (1) have to lift and pull it off of the manure accumulation to clean, (2) runoff from the roof creats a muddy mess when it falls on an earthen lot. Cattle have access to a earthen lot that is about 90 feet ao a side. Building is entirely inside the lot, pulled up in 1 corner so that they can not get behind it.
