If you plan on keeping bales over a year. I'd say wire. Always used wire and loved it. Nothing more frustrating than pulling on a bale and only getting broke twine. Can happen with wire too, after MANY years. Wire may be cost prohibitive now, haven't bought any for awhile, but I'd prefer wire if I was buying hay or straw.
