NEMO | I'm sure this has probably been talked about before on here, but it still amazes me how many cows calves right before a storm or change in the weather. The wind is blowing (has been all day) and there are storm watches out this evening mostly to the south and east with a front moving through.
We were averaging around 4 calves a day during the first cycle and now it has slowed down to 1 or 2 a day the past couple weeks. This evening I went out to check and had 8 calve today, 5 of them still wet and born within a couple hours (2 of those within minutes of each other). I would bet none will calve tomorrow. Just glad they are coming in 70 degree weather and not 10 degrees and snow like we used to a couple years ago.
I've heard people say coincidence, or has more to do with what the bulls were doing 9 months ago, but there is definitely something to the weather changing and having a lot of calves at one time. Seen it happen lots of times over the years. | |
