The latches like Lynn posted from Northern are good. I bought some from the feed store, they were painted blue but the same design. I've never had one fail yet, I had a bull jump up and and lay on a 6' tall rodeo gate. We bent the top two rails over, but the latch never gave up. Just make sure the gate side of the latch you put on a center of a bar so it can't turn. Mount the slam latch first on post or wall then, adjust gate side to fit it.
If you need pics let me know and I will try to take some tomorrow. You can weld a chain or drill a hole in lever to put a pull rope in gate release to make it easier to open a horseback if needed.
The other type are welded, they are good, but if gate sags a little you need to cut slam opening bigger, they will rust in the pin if you don't lube them up once and a while. | |
