Columbia City, Indiana | Made a new mineral feeder today, hoping it helps with face flies. Took an old plastic barrell, cut a big square hole in the side and drilled a couple of holes over the opening and hung 2 fly bullets in the opening, so when cows stick their head in to lick an IGR block the bullets will smear fly dope all over their eyes and face. I'm hoping this will work, anyway. My plan is to simply once a week or so take a 5 gallon bucket and put the fly dope in the bucket, then remove the bullets and soak them in the fly dope until they're saturated, then rehang them in the mineral feeder. My question is what to soak them in? I've got a big jug of fly rub insecticide but I'm hoping I can mix it with diesel fuel or something to make it last longer. Has anybody had good luck doing this? If so, how much fly dope and how much diesel fuel? TIA.
I also would like to hang fly bullets soaked in the same mixture in the entrances to my creep feeder, which will treat the calves. | |
