NC ND
one resource to look into would be the NDSU Germans from Russia project from Fargo, ND. If women did the mens work it was necessary and no one thought anything out of the ordinary. Most of the old biographies I've read the womens work was harder than the mens to start with ( or at least required more time).

Search out the "Furrow" magazine, there is a modern day Alberta family of all women that is carrying on just as the old women did when required. My grandparents familys came from a pretty poor background in central ND and listening to their stories the girls did alot of the chores growing up, but that was assigned generically to kids regardless of gender.
