Continuing to evaluate your management system, these calves born may june 2010 and weaned when? Now, say 9- 10 mths? Yes I would use pasturalla as insurance for the next 90 day you background them. They will have same hot and cold temps as one weaned in Oct. In my mindset spending money that returns labor savings or lack of production loss is not a concern. You going to buy any feed for those guys? They will probably be the highest calves you have ever sold. Don't think I have ever sold cattle in June. Marketing in June adds different ideas in themselves (not the best). Our fall calves will be sold before that, into the grass market first of April. Otherwise they go to Aug 1st and weigh 750-800 and sold for early feedlot fills. Interesting to see different management approaches. Forgot do your calves go on to a feedlot that had bought them several years? Like fits their rotation?
