Subject: Dairy steers are different

Mohawk Indiana
Dairy steers have classes where they are shown as feeders [300-500 lbs] then can come back a year later and show as a finished steer. He is not asking anyone to finish it out for him and his kids. Just thinks that by buying a feeder steer that has done well at the younger age might be a good place to start when looking for a prospect for next year. Sometimes the ones that do well as feeders do well later, sometimes not. Dairy steers are a good projects for kids who want to show at one or two shows but the family doesn't want to or can't afford the committment to spend lots of money for calves and pricey equipment, and who really can't justify spending most of their time trying to keep hair growing on calves all summer. I think he has a good idea.
