Has been my experience that no matter what calving ease bull I use, a cow that has a heavy calf will have a heavy calf consistantly. With a 1 birthweight bull and a 80# calf, a 5 bw bull should be only 4# heavier. I used Northlander years ago and still had 90# calves out of him. All these indexes and EPDs should be used as a guide, but not written in stone. But the EPD should tell you the trend in the breeding and what they SHOULD do.
I think a 7 on the calving ease is about average, isn't it. Remember the cows donate alot to this. I almost think the cow does more than the bull. Generations of good breeding will give you more consistancy.
