First off, your wife should be very careful around the sheep. Since you don't know the health status of flock there is the potential for them to be carrying diseases that can cause abortion in humans. Just a caution, not trying to scare you.
Onto your problems, sheep can be a steep learning curve, and now you're on it. I know you wrote a lot but there is still a lot of information needed to help you. If you want, I can e-mail you and with some more info exchanged may be able to help you.
I wouldn't be getting out of the sheep business just yet, the rest might lamb out with no problems.
