It's just a plastic pin about 1\2 inch in diameter and a few inches long. There is a flat washer that goes on both ends and a plastic hairpin clip that goes through a small hole in the pin to hold the plastic washers. After reinstalling the prolapse, you take the pin and poke up inside the cow just to the rear of the cervix and make an incision for the pin to go through. You'll probably want to watch your vet do this once before you try it yourself. I think the pin can stay in indefinitely but can be removed about a month after calving.
