I read a beautiful tribute to him blogged by one of his students.  She didn't say how he'd passed, only how he'd touched lives.

Here is part of her blog:

God wanted a FFA contest up in heaven, and needing teachers, he selected his first seven.
Bevel, Williams, and Herrington as well, a couple more men whose names I just can’t spell.
He needed one more person, someone with wisdom and wit.
From up above he looked down and saw Danny, who was never first to quit.
So, God took him up above and gave him a tie of blue,
he was ready to compete with a good attitude.
He chose his station wisely and decided on the door,
to welcome each new advisor as their life on earth is through.
There he will be stationed ready to begin, on the same team with some other special men.
You cannot hear the gavel but you feel it near,
as God asks loudly  "FFA Advisors, why are you here?"

“To guide our students through their journey down on land,
and be a special angel when they need an extra hand.
As they support the colors of the gold and the blue,
may they always be reminded to give the glory to You!
We're proud of them lose or win, in the classroom or the pen.
We're watching them succeed
with the wisdom we left within.
Our job is not done yet as we wipe away each tear,
until it’s time to hang their jackets and join us all up here.”
