We don't have the counter space to keep it out all the time.  I discovered the best thing to do is to store it in the bread drawer.  You want toast, go to the bread drawer get the bread and the toaster at the same time.  Somehow the bread and the toaster are back in the bread drawer the next time I need them?  I never figured that out???:)
