northwest tennessee | <p>Yes you have to treat for an extended period of time. It is hard to get them over this and will travel up into the body and will settle in a vital organ and show up later. I lost one that way one time. I thought he was over it and was looking good and growing then about 3 or 4 months later I just found him dead. I cut him open and you could see where the infection got up into his intestine and it was discolored on up into his body. Looking back though he would always kind of have a hump in his back even though he was looking better.I believe you could use a long acting penicillin and not have to treat every day but maybe every 2 or 3 days. Ask you vet.</p>
