Eastern Half of Kansas | Went to the salebarn today, needed a calf to put on a heifer that calved last night. Made some calls to 3 barns all about an hour away. Took my best chance and went to one that had one calf about a week old off a bad uddered cow. Needed a calf pretty bad, hadn't found one from any of the local dairys. Dad and I said just buy it, told him it could bring $325 or $350, okay. I'm embarassed to say this, bid on it, came back to me at $470, I finally declined. Thought I would be able to buy it. Another pair come in, calf less than a week old, cow didn't have the best of udder, they split them. Thought I'd be able to buy this, come back to me at $450, I know, I'm a fool again. I declined. Same guy bought them both, dont know if he need graft calf too or bucket calves. After alot of searching found a holstien in the evening, skinned old calf and locked up heifer and nursed calf had a perfect match. Dont know what brother paid for holstein probably $100 to 150.
Side note, for those that graft calves how do you do it? | |
