| In cold weather, the cow's digestive system is "ramped up" and she is consuming all she can to stay warm. The increased nutrients and internal circulation cause the calf to develop faster. In milder temps, the cow would be more ambulatory and expending more energy out grazing and other activites instead of hunkered down by the windbreak putting it all into the developing calf. I'm probably explaining poorly, but that is the gist of it. | |
