Subject: RE: Fall vs spring calving

With -6 temps and -36 wind chills right now I'm sure glad I'm not out calving today. I gave the cows 2 days worth of hay yesterday afternoon and didn't even start the tractor today.

Used to be starting lambing about this time of year which was a round the clock job inside the sheep shed. I start calving the last week of April through May and will not go back to early spring calving. I'm just not up to it anymore. It's too much work, too much feeding and moving snow, and too many frozen calves to thaw out.
