Subject: Re: cow abortions?

Stratton, Ontario, Canada
Common for twins to be aborted. Likely one got tangled in it's umbilical cord and the other calf was just a consequence of the first being aborted.

Your lucky. I once had a cow die aborting twins about a month and half early. The first came out ok, but the second got caught up and she hemorrhaged and died. I didn't find her until a week later (big bush pasture in the middle of winter).

It happens in singles too. Had a fall calf, first part of July last year being aborted. Umbilical cord was clearly wrapped around it's front leg and neck as I fished for the other front leg to pull it out.

Hot day and dead early calf = worst smelling thing I have ever had to be around on the farm.
