What do you mean by "not quite line of sight?" -- are we talking trees in the way, or mother earth?
There are point-to-point radios that can move data quite well for the rates you need up to 40 miles. Look at manufactures like Motorola or Trango and you see gear you can use without a license that is designed specifically for high-bandwidth point-to-point links.
