I've heard that small square bales of average hay are bringing $6-$7 at the local sale barn but have not seen it myself.  Had a guy ask me last week if we had any small square bales for sale which we don't at this time and he said they are almost impossible to find right now, I should add that he is a feed salesman that covers about a 4 county area so he knows where to look for hay normally.  With over 60" of rain last summer it was almost impossible to get hay made between rains and even alfalfa was mostly stems so good quality hay is pretty much impossible to find locally.  Three years ago we made over 10,000 small square bales, this year we made less than 2,000 and every one was spoken for before they were baled.
