Two of my teammates in university went on to play in the NFL for a while.. neither one ever made more than the league minimum... both were well insured against career-ending injuries.
Frozen ground isn't that big a deal, we had a couple of years where the last month of our season were played on frozen ground. I'd take it any day over astroturf.
