| We have been running fall cow calf pairs for several years and like it but always looking for a way to make more off of the land that we run them on. I was watching some bred heifers sell this week that were 7-8 months bred, weighing about 1150 pounds. They were good quality black angus cattle and they were bringing $1300-1400, and there were several hundred that sold at this price. The lowest dollar set that sold were some 950 pounders that sold for $1200. Right now you can buy 600 pound OCV heifers of the same type for $1.10. So say you have $660 in them. Looks like a good way to make several hundred dollars a head and be able to run 1.5 heifers to every pair we have now. These prices on heifers have been this high here for several years and I don't see them going anywhere with a shrinking US cowherd. What am I missing? | |
