East Kansas, DeSoto
I was the wee one in the photo. Father hauled the tank empty from Des Moines to bury for gasoline storage to pump with old fashioned hand pumps pictured. The country store was built west of Guthrie Center Iowa about 8 miles. Saved farmers many miles for groceries. Kerosene was a big seller but in an above ground tank. Hauled groceries on that truck from Des Moines, a slow trip with all the hills from Panora on to the store. True, I do not remember any over weight people in my day. Too much work to do to get food clothing and shelter. Gifford
