Subject: 600 acres and 40-50 head of sows

NEMO
Post in another forum got me to thinkin(again). I wonder how many would actually be farming today if we were still farming 600 acres, had 40-50 head of sows(not in confinement), maybe a couple hundred head of fat cattle a year, and 40 acres of alfalfa? 856 and 4020's for tractors, 1440 combine(or 6620), and two old junk 300 bushel straight trucks!!! I do realize that without all this modern technology we couldn't raise 240 bu corn and 60 bu beans, but maybe that would be okay. Might keep crop prices higher for longer periods of time. Do any of you think the neighbors snot nosed kid or the local "BTO" would love farming so much if was like the old days? I personally kinda miss the good ole days of scoopin poop every a day and cultivating beans atleast twice a summer.
