Never done a stretch that long before but you can splice it about anywhere. As far as how much you cut off the ends, I found a "deal" on some rolls of 330 ft fencing once. The "deal" fencing had to have the last 10-15 feet thrown away because the machine that rolls it up just waded the fencing up to get the roll started. Turned out to not be such a good deal.
