Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot | I agree with Mark, grass doesn't need to be deep. If you have done good ground prep and have a firm seedbed of bare soil, rolling or dragging the seed in works best. Those cattle panels, light harrow or best yet, a Schmeiser ring roller will all work without burying the seed too deep. I've used everything from an airflow spreader to a little cheesy pull behind the four wheeler (actually works well for small pastures, which mine are >10 acres) spreader to spread the seed, then rolled it in with a schmeiser or brillion.
I'm now a firm believer in only ONE kind of grass in a pasture however. Plant a mix, and they will graze the most palatable stuff first. Right down to the ground before they touch the other stuff. With only one kind of grass they don't have a choice and will graze it more uniformily. Makes rotational grazing easier. | |
