MN | I castrated some holstein bull calves (about 7 weeks old) about two weeks ago - tried to knife cut by cutting off the bottom one third, massaging the cord and pulling the cord to sever on about six calves - I have one calf who has very swollen scrotum, hard, etc. Calf is very peppy yet. I gave a shot of penicillin/dexamethasone at castration (along with tetanus) and a couple more since then (custom mixed from the local vet) but doesn't seem to change the swelling (the other five look fine). Any suggestions on a different antibiotic that might knock this swelling/infection out for this calf? I usually band but wanted to try this since supposedly cutting results in heavier calves. I am wondering if I should have pulled the cords versus cutting or something else? Never tried before so want to do the best way!
