senior may have been asking the question to see what age some of the posters were ha ha.
i can remember salting the bales as my uncles stacked them in the barn. my dad said if it was
stacked outside you didn't need to salt them. the explanations in the posts above sound more realistic to me. i suppose,
for my dad it was an easier explanation to put it the way he did rather than waste time explaining it more
fully. it was one step better than telling me to shut up, get to work and do what i tell you.
