North Central Illinois
109 day VT3 planted 4-12-10 on beans stubble split app liquid N. 25% 214 bu. 108 day Smartstax planted same as the other 24% 198 bu. 107 day Herculex QS 27% 210 bu. This field has a five year average of around 230 bu. Another field planted 4-13-10 continuos corn same N program as other 112 day VT3 27% 200 bu. Five year average of 236. Another field 104 day RR planted 4-20-10 second year corn split app liquid N 24% and 188 bu. Five year average of 208. Variability is the word for the year. Places in the field making 250 and places making 50. All in all I'm happy so far even though it is about five to ten less than I was thinking a few weeks ago. A decent crop but well below the five year average. Talked to a guy only about ten miles northwest of me that got into some 104 day VT3 that was over 240. They had less rain in June and more rain in July than us. I think the northern 1/4 of Illinois will have some awesome corn. Still see the state as a whole being off quite a bit from five year average.
