I would be more inclined to buy a put if you are looking for some hedge protection. When writing calls you need to monitor things quite closely or it could hand you a bigger and bigger margin call if things take off to the upside. I am not saying it will but the market has been in a fairly good sized uptrend. Just my two cents worth......
