Subject: Hillside crates

Lapel, In
or farrowing pens. Been about 25-30 years ago, can't remember for sure. Think maybe his name was Ruben Edwards, Middletown, Missouri, Hampshire breeder, designed and built a farrowing facility . Plastic coated wire floor set on a slope with a creep area an the bottom of the slope. Talked to him and he thought it was the best system, kind of like a new corn planter-no problems was his response. Sow had no choice but to expose her udder to the creep area,(similar to a nest a sow would build in the wild) but she could still get up and move around. Looked like a great idea to me.Was an article in the National Hog Farmer with pictures back then,I think. Anyone know if the idea caught on ? Thought it might satisfy PETA ?
