Subject: STL corn damage

USA
Dvswia,

Sorry for delay in answering your question, been too busy to respond.

ADM river terminal at Sauget, IL is piling damaged on corn on the ground. Talked to an elevator owner yesterday, that had a customer haul a couple loads of corn to Sauget off the farm. Dock was $3 bu. They then hauled a load to the new Ethonal plant ( Abengoa), load went less than 5% damage.

Abengoa has bailed a bunch of peoples butt's out of hot water that had damaged corn. Same corn hauled to ADM, Cargill, and CGB with 20 plus damage, would be less than 5% damage at Abengoa. Abengoa uses about 100, 000 bu of corn a day and have taken a lot of high damage corn off the market, that would have normally went down the river.

Don't know what CGB is doing on damaged corn, but Cargill ESTL won't take anything over 5% damage at the present. Cargill was at 20% max damage about 6 weeks ago, then went to 10%, then 7% max damage until this week when they went to 5. Guy at Cargill said they had barges of damaged corn they couldn't sell.

Corn quality in this part of the country looks to be a lot better than last year. Will know more in a couple weeks how this years corn crop is going to stack up. Plan on starting corn harvest Aug 23. Looks to me like may have the same problem as 07, 12 -13% corn by the first week of Sept. Over dry corn = less bu.
