New Mexico | local harvest plants ( hogs, cattle, sheep, goats ) and see just how long it takes to get a date for your animal/animals.
You might find that most of those are busy enough, the schedule gets out there a ways to a real long time too.
The afore indicates there's alot of "off the map" product feeding plenty of folks.
Helming assumptions make sense.
Seems likely though, total cow numbers beef/dairy will be more in the 25 milion range total within 10 years, instead of the 35 m he projects.
Hiefer mix in 010 has been high on the FI data.
Been running about 38 to 40% of total ( rest is steers, cull cows, bulls etc ).
Traditional normal used to be 32 to 35%.
4% over on hiefers equates to generally 1 to 1.2 million head per year in total usa female replacements harvested, not kept as cows.
( higher than the 09 mix was, and 09 was high too ).
Times change.
