NE SD

We're around that -.70 mark. -.70 is pretty steep for corn. Normally in that -.50 range or so. We had a big crop last fall and noone could get any to market from March until late June due to road condition so now the corn is moving to town and the basis stinks. Our basis has always been and will always be worse than the basis as you move south and east of here. A lot more ethanol plants to use up the corn, closer to the river, etc.

The biggest problem I have with the basis is that it can fluctuate so much. It's supposed to be a transportation charge. Can you tell me how the transportation cost can fluctuate .10 from day to day? Basically widening on an up day and narrowing on a down day. Good way to take profit.
