New Mexico | supposed norm is that agri producers "game" their NET up off the market system, thesis being that the govt has a safe floor system in place to insure COP of crops.
Granted the market has also learned to work the supposed basis more, thus made for a much higher potential for a few in "gaming" profit or losses from that 3rd dimension of the market of late.
The basis is the real "bookie" now.
Almost appears there is now more REAL moves in basis on things like grain, rather than much real movement the paper or futures market itself.
