Subject: Nice pic Jim - I love a good Hereford

Watford City, ND

Any thought on pulling some of the calves off early if they reach a predetermined weight?  I've only ever had to deal with that on dry years - I'm thinking as long as you have forage and what not, the stress is less on the cows so why not keep adding pounds??  Just thinking out loud...

Out in western NoDak (Watford City) I'm seeing an increase in grazing corn stalks.  I'm thinking there are about 5 guys locally growing them for grazing.  It'll be interesting to see if they have any nitrate concerns if we happen to get a dry Aug.

And just a side note - this is the first time "here" that I've seen corn planted with a planter.  Most everyone else uses airseeders since that's what we use for small grains.  Its a nice change having come from living in the RRV and moving back out here.

Have a good one - hope you catch you at a show sometime.

Later,

Marco
