Subject: Short flight this weekend

Central Illinois
over Morgan, Cass, Sangamon, Schyuler, and Brown Counties. We are getting dry here, but nothing like a drought yet. A good soaking in the next week would help a lot. A lot of corn fields are showing N defienceis, I think the very top end is off of most corn here. However, in my flight yesterday, I was very surprised by two things. Prevented planting will be taken on several fields, and inclomplete fields are everywhere. They make not be large enough areas to file for PP, but many fields have 3-10 acre holes. The bigger surprise was soybean fields. We all know they don't like wet feet, but what I saw was staggering. Up to fifty percent of some fields were gone, 10 to 20% was normal on the flat and black. Cool and wet May and wet June must have really hammered stands, even more than you can see from the roads.
